Janet Colburn, winner of numerous awards including the Van Cliburn Piano Award and the Presser Foundation Grant, has been acclaimed as soloist with major symphonies in the U.S., Europe, and the Far East as well as for recital performances.\nAfter beginning her formal piano studies in New York with pianist Ozan Marsh, a pupil of Rachmaninoff, Petri, Casadesus, and Emil Sauer (the last pupil of Liszt), she launched her performing career as soloist in Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto. Her performing repertoire includes contemporary works by Reich and Kurtag, which she has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.\nDr. Colburn has composed and performed for television and film, including an appearance as pianist in the NBC film Nutcrackers. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Southern California & has served on the faculties of USC, UCLA and the California State Universities.\nThe Taipei Evening News praised her "monumental technique and masterful style;" The Honolulu Star Bulletin wrote, "A formidable talent ... she played brilliantly, taking the demanding technical tasks in stride, with a rare intelligence of interpretation and musical expression."\nA devotee of the Music of Mozart, Janet Colburn is a frequent visitor to the Salzburg Festival.
