Although they captured their relentless attack with an impressive EP, In a Darkened Room, and two memorable albums -- Temptation and Chamber of One -- lack of commercial success left the Stockport, England-based group so frustrated that they separated in 1997. \nKnown for their reliance on big, chunky guitar chords and ultra-slow tempos, Dearly Beheaded was formed in early 1993 by vocalist Alex Cramer, lead guitarist Phil Stevens, rhythm guitarist Steve Owens, bassist Tim Preston, and drummer Bob Ryan. Stevens was replaced by former-Critical Mass guitarist Darron Hough in April 1997 and Ryan was replaced by Simon Dawson shortly afterwards.\nRecording a demo, We the Unwilling, in early 1995, Dearly Beheaded was quickly signed by the East West label. Soon after the release of an EP, In a Darkened Room, in September 1995, Dearly Beheaded left East West over irrevocable musical differences and signed with Music for Nations. Their first full-length album, Temptation, released in 1996, was followed by Chamber of One a year later. Following Dearly Beheaded's disbanding, Hough and Preston continued to play together in a new group, Sleath.
