Salt Lake City is not the typical city you have in mind when searching for electro-pop music, but Cory Scott Layton and Brittney Shields are looking to change that. Known as Oh, Be Clever, the duo have perfected their mixture of rock, soul, pop, and electronic elements under emotional lyrics. Their story reads almost like the Capulets and Montagues from Romeo and Juliet coming together after each being apart of rival bands that culminated in physical violence between the groups. Their mutual respect for each other won out in the end forming this project.\n\nIn the next few months, they will be releasing a yet-to-be-titled EP, but one of the tracks that will be featured is the song “Next To You.” It is highlighted with an overpowering chorus made for mainstream radio. According to Shields, the song “was inspired by completely devastating and intense break ups that my band mate Cory and I faced at the same time.” She goes on to explain, “We were both experiencing the effects of a break up and it was driving us to the point of feeling like we were losing our minds. We took our emotions and feelings of madness and transformed it into music, and ‘Next To You’ was born.”
