we are Plaistow – we come in peace.\n \nJohann Bourquenez, piano\n Vincent Ruiz, doublebass\n Cyril Bondi, drums\n \nThe classical trio line-up – piano, bass, drums – is revisited from top to bottom, free from any stylistic constraint. The band’s music is constantly evolving.\n Formed in 2007 in Geneva, Plaistow has since given a hundred concerts (Switzerland, France, Russia, Germany, Morocco, Middle East …) and published 5 albums.\n The band’s name was inspired by a composition of Squarepusher, aka Tom Jenkinson, called “Plaistow Flex Out”.\n Since its beginnings Plaistow has chosen to distribute its music free of charge on the internet via its website and in close collaboration with netlabels, primarily Insubordinations\n \nLa formation classique du trio piano, basse, batterie est revisitée de fond en comble, en s’affranchissant de toute contrainte stylistique. La musique du groupe est en évolution permanente.\n Formé en 2007 à Genève, Plaistow a depuis donné une centaine de concerts (Suisse, France, Russie, Allemagne, Maroc, Moyen-Orient…) et publié 5 disques.\n Le nom du groupe est à chercher dans une composition de Squarepusher, alias Tom Jenkinson, appelée “Plaistow Flex Out”.\n Plaistow à depuis le départ fait le choix de diffuser gratuitement ses productions sur internet, via son site internet et un travail en collaboration avec, notamment, le netlabel Insubordinations.\nPlaistow, sorte d’ovni musical, réinvente la formule et brouille constamment les cartes de disque en disque, pour aboutir avec ce “Lacrimosa” à un extrême où une note ou un accord peuvent être répétés jusqu’au bout d’un chemin mystérieux, quand le souffle commence à manquer, avant une nouvelle envolée.\n Bien malin qui pourrait définir cette plongée aux confins du minimalisme, du rock et du jazz où se faufilent des rythmiques électroniques. Si le grondement et la pulsation sont terriens, les autres éléments sont puissamment liquides et envahissent l’espace sonore avec beaucoup de force.\n Formé à Genève en 2007, Plaistow a déjà donné une bonne centaine de concerts et publie aujourd’hui son cinquième disque. It is music that has to be played and that happens to have found its means, rather than the other way round. It is music that explores the nature of duration (Bergson’s durée) but without indulging in the ‘durational’ or ‘immersive’ antics of a great deal of contemporary music, which simply attempts to hold the listener prisoner until it arbitrarily stops. One doesn’t feel that with Plaistow, who give repetition an air of unpredictability and sudden transitions an impression of sufficiency and inevitability.
