简介:
Jenny McCormick is a performer who seems able to move between the traditional folk clubs and the new folk and acoustic scene with ease. A singer who wanted to be a writer before she started to concentrate on songs, it was the storytelling aspect that first drew her to traditional material. Receiving Radio 2 airplay, Jenny has played support to the likes of Devon Sproule, John Smith and Spiers & Boden.\n2012 brings the release of a brand new album, Sweet Demon. Each of the album’s 10 tracks pays homage to the romantic in all its madness, sadness and insane happiness. From the twangy guitar and double bass of lonesome opener, The Cinder Rosary, to the swelling Hammond of the uplifting The Bough Won’t Break, Jenny McCormick’s new collection of songs – some self-penned, some traditional – some joyous, others reflective – show her love of folklore and poetry more visibly than ever before.\nThe mood is perhaps best encapsulated on album highlight, Love, a joyous alt-country tinged track with a guest appearance from the talented guitarist, James Walbourne. The album also contains a co-write between Jenny and Sam Genders, of celebrated folktronica band Tunng. For all its twisted imagery of monsters and chariots, Monocle, is a beautifully uplifting and romantic highlight.\nThe musicians came together as a result of a couple of years spent collaborating in both The Memory Band and the Woodbine & Ivy Band, including Jon Thorne on bass, John Ellis on keys and Stuart McCallum on guitar.\n“A true artist bringing refreshing new perspectives to the folk form.” – Spiral Earth\n“Her talent for songwriting is pretty formidable…” – Chris Long, BBC\nJenny plays and records with the long running Memory Band and appears on their latest album, Oh My Days, with a cast of fantastic singers and musicians including Sam Carter, John Smith and Nancy Wallace, released 7th February 2011.\n“proffer[ing} folk music as a thing of both cockle-warming familiarity and subtle innovation.” – **** Mojo\nAutumn 2011 saw the release of The Woodbine & Ivy Band album. Produced by Peter Philipson and out on Folk Police Recordings, it features a collection of traditional songs, recorded by a Manchester-based collective of musicians, with assistance from the legendary producer Bill Leader. The album takes folk rock in exciting new directions and features guest vocals from some of their favourite singers from the worlds of folk and alt-folk, including Jackie Oates, Nancy Wallace, Jenny McCormick, Jim Causley, James Raynard and Fay Hield.
