Akelei is one of few doom bands which create melodic doom metal of the lighter and more romantic-melancholic kind, but without drawing on influences from the Peaceville Three school. Instead they sound like they could have taken the cold alternative pop\u002Frock sound of Canaan and This Empty Flow, and drawn in some heavy doom\u002Fdeath riffage. Wether the band plays hard doom metal with a soft edge or soft doom metal with a hard edge, it's really hard to tell.
