Like many singers I found my love for singing early in life as an alto in the school choir. While growing up in Ottawa, I sang along to many of my parent’s albums- which were an eclectic collection of music. From Ray Coniff Singers, (pop), Doris Day and Les Brown (big band), Ella Fitzgerald (jazz standards) Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass (Latin trumpeter), Neil Diamond (pop) to Johnny Cash (country) - I loved to sing and dance to all of it! \nA family move to Nova Scotia when I was 15 opened up a whole new world of music to me! “I was listening to some really great stuff as a teenager and really started to love the blues.” I also liked to imitate singers, male and female, and loved to sing harmonies along with all the great bands in the seventies, such as Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Doobie Bros. Chicago, etc.\nRight after high school I did a 4 month stint with a cover band out of Moncton, NB. “I could carry a tune but was really shy about singing on stage.” I had a lot of trouble projecting my voice and I recall a few people saying, “She sounds great - when we can hear her.” \nIt was the disco era and the band wanted me to wear something, shall we say skimpy and “shake my booty on stage.” The leader of the band gave me some cash to buy 2 stage outfits. The first was a long sleeved black dress that went below my knees. The guys used to say, “Here comes the Judge” when I wore it. The second was a full length, layered, rather angelic white frock. \nI decided I wasn’t cut out for that scene and obviously had a lot to learn about singing so quit before they fired me. I traveled around the country for the next few years doing office work during the day waiting tables in clubs and restaurants at night. I worked at trying to get a bigger sound and eventually did. At that time – early 1980’s - I was looking to make a living and singing for my supper didn’t really come into the equation. \nI moved to Vancouver in 1982 and began a career in the investment business in 1983. A friend and co-worker, Bert Clarke, played bass and sang and the two of us never missed an opportunity to perform at company functions. We’ve been very lucky over the years to have a company that supported our musical endeavors. We’ve been hired several times along with many great musicians to perform at our large corporate parties. \nIn 1994 Bert and some old university buddies decided to form a cover band and in 1995 I started sitting in at the odd gig with them, eventually becoming one of the lead vocalists. It was mostly rock, R&B, blues and a lot of fun. The band had some highlights - one being a gig at the “Commodore Ballroom” with Top City Horns and Tom Pickett in 1996. \nRob, piano, Billy, drums and I decided to build up a jazz repertoire in order to get gigs in a few of the jazz spots opening up in Vancouver. I fell in love with the standards that I had listened to as a kid and as my jazz ear developed - bebop and other jazz forms became the music that I aspired to. \n. \nWe named the group Just Don’t Ask with Rob Weaver, keys, Dave Say, tenor sax \u002F Ingrid Stitt, alto sax and Bill Wallace, drums and before he moved, Bert on bass. We ended up getting a regular gig at Capone’s in the Yaletown area of Vancouver where we still play regularly after 9 years. The live performances gave me the opportunity to find and develop my own voice and I’m thankful for that. \nIn the last few years, Bert and Billy moved on to other things which left Rob, Dave and I as the 3 original members. We decided to rename the group, Weaver & Werth Music Group and were joined by Rick Kilburn, bass and Brennan Saul, drums. \nAfter meeting Rick Kilburn, I decided it was high time to record a CD of my own and asked him to produce and help with arrangements. “I had written some tunes and thought is would be great to record some original stuff along with some covers on my first CD, Watchin’ The World go by.” The CD was released in March 2008.
