简介:
小简介\nThe Beep Seals formed in 2006 thanks to a mutual admiration of each other and a shared love of various things, predominantly the visionary demi-god Todd Rundgren, long walks on rainy days, the sound of a really good fuzz pedal and the Beatles (obviously). Spending 2007 touring some of the world and cultivating a fearsome live reputation centred around the best drummer since Animal from the Muppets and harmonies that’d make Brian Wilson snap and punch Carl in the face; 2008 will see the band follow up their two sold out singles with their debut album ‘Things That Roar’ on London’s Heron Recordings.\nRecorded over ten days in February with Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub, the album represents the fruits of a year listening to Faust and The Zombies, debating what the best musical (The Wizard Of Oz by the way) is and sitting in the back of a splitter van watching Brazil. The album is a collection of gloriously melodic songs that sounds absolutely nothing like the bands that have made their hometown of Manchester famous. Instead it looks to the current crop of innovative pop merchants coming out of Brooklyn such as Yeasayer or MGMT and at it’s heart even further west to the haze of Brian Wilson’s California or the phase of Georgia’s Elephant 6 collective. The band’s sound although tied together with completely ace songwriting and a weirdly unique vocal style has been understandably described as ’schizophernic’, with previous reviewers struggling to pigeon-hole the band, hitting the nail but not necessarily on the head. Imagine if you will a night out where you happen to stumble upon a supergroup of Tony Iommi, Frank Zappa and Stevie Nicks backed by a leathered Pavement, running through the Disney catalogue and you wouldn’t be far off…kind of.\nThe Beep Seals are:\nPhilip Anderson - instruments with keyboards and vocals\nJack O Cooper - guitar, songs and vocals\nIan Hinton-Smith - guitar, songs and vocals\nSam Morris - bass guitar and vocals\nJay Sikora - drums, effects and vocals
