Created in 2005 Mechanical Bride is the music project of Lauren Doss.Born in 1986, Lauren coming from a British\u002FAmerican, musical family line of singers, songwriters, drummers, Nickelodeon pianists and big band singers, had an upbringing centred around music, in Kingston, Surrey.The close observations as a child and early trained ear of Lauren Doss was the tool to self-teach herself from a young age piano and guitar and started to write compositions at the age of 14. It wasn’t until 16 when Lauren started to sing, at the same time writing ‘Poor Boy’, which was the first song to bring national attention to Mechanical Bride when released in 2006.Whilst Studying Music and Visual Art at Brighton University, solo music project Mechanical Bride was created. The first composition, a one minute vocal piece and animation, ‘Chapel’, was discovered by Transgressive Records, through college friend and fellow musician Ed Larrikin. This resulted in the release of In the Throes EP, Black Skeleton Sea EP, and Part II EP’s.The melancholy cover of Rhianna’s ‘Umbrella’ again brought Mechanical Bride to the attention of many, supporting Bat For Lashes, Johnny Flynn and Smog.Within the worlds of Lauren’s music are reflections of her cross-influences, having had a love for early American jazz from discovering the tapes of Ella Fitzgerald at 8, through to the current influences of PJ Harvey and Bjork. As much a visual artist as musical, Lauren weaves eclectic and intricate arrangements on her debut album ‘Living With Ants’, produced by Lauren Doss and Nick Abbott, recorded in the hills of Surrey with the ember-like warmth of analogue running through.
