In the seven years since Swing de Gitanes started out, it has led the Gypsy Swing scene in Israel and gleaned ardent praise.\nSwing de Gitanes creates a unique musical experience derived from the colorful passion of Gypsy music, the elegance and melodic quality of French music of the twenties to forties and the infectious bounciness of American swing. The band has two albums under its belt (“Muza” and the joint album with Miki Gavrielov), as well as hundreds of performances, dozens of television and radio appearances (Window on the Middle East, Intermezzo, Journal (the weekly news digest), et al.) and performances at prominent Israeli jazz festivals.\nSwing de Gitanes has hosted leading international jazz and Gypsy Swing artists, including:\nLulo Reinhardt (Germany), Daniel Weltlinger (Australia), Hot Club de Norvege) Norway), Evan Christopher )United States) ,Maurizio di Fulvio) Italy), Leonid Ptashka (Israel)\nThe band seeks opportunities to reach out to other musicians and create original performance platforms. The y have worked with a chamber orchestra conducted by Aviv Ron, in collaboration with Dory Ben Zeev (at the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival), in their own Gypsy Swing Fest production with a large band and dancers (at the Spring Festival), and many others.\nThe band’s refreshing virtuosity rejuvenates and revitalizes the Gypsy Swing experience at its height – the heart and soul of the style initiated by the legendary guitarist, Django Reinhardt.\nIntroducing the members of the band\nOren Sagi\nOren is a self-taught musician, guided by his love of music, especially in the lower registers. He started his musical life playing bass guitar, but went over to double bass when he decided to delve into jazz and acoustic instrumental music. Oren has been composing music since the age of 16, and now devotes his compositional talents to Swing de Gitanes.\nAt the age of 17, he recorded his first album for the Echo label, with his own original compositions. He participated in many other recordings, including the Hip-hop hit “Kabel,” “Humphrey’s Sispence” and others. He has accompanied many artists from Israel and abroad in a variety of styles, including jazz, ethnic, R&B, pop and rock. As Swing de Gitanes began to coalesce into a thriving entity, Oren grew away from other genres in order to devote himself to the music that truly claimed his heart, Django’s music.\nOren brings his joie de vivre to the group and his playing embraces his fellow band members. His intuitive instincts and natural way with people have led him to be very active behind the scenes in promoting the band and developing opportunities to cooperate with artists in Israel and abroad.\nYaakov Hoter\nAt the age of 13, when Yaakov started to play the guitar, his older brother, Azriel, gave him a Django Reinhardt cassette. Django’s music ignited a spark in Yaakov and he began to dream of going to Europe to learn from the Gypsies. Yaakov graduated from the Rimon Music High School and attained his bachelor’s degree in music from the Jerusalem Music Academy. He has performed in many bands, written songs and music for the theater. It was only in 2006, following a chance meeting with Jon Larsen and Walter Clerici in Denmark, that he decided to dedicate himself completely to Gypsy swing. He travelled to Belgium to study with the accomplished Gypsy guitarist Fapy Lafertin and had the great good fortune to also meet and jam with Gypsy guitar greats Birelli Lagrene, Moreno, Stochelo and Noumi Rosenberg in France – learning a great deal in the process.\nNow, aside from his activities with the band, Yaakov is developing a new generation of Gypsy swing guitarists in Israel. He has translated his experience in learning the style into a straightforward comprehensive method available at gypsyjazzschool.com. Yaakov has initiated the production of Gypsy Swing guitars in Israel, in cooperation with ERG. He is working on original compositions and lyrics in preparation for a debut album of his own.\nYaakov imbues the group with the traditional spirit of Gypsy jazz guitar and devotes a lot of time and energy to promoting the band.\nAlon Sagi\nAlon started to learn to play the guitar at the age of seven by himself and over the years has taken up other instruments. He has played in many bands in a variety of styles and has appeared on many stages and participated in many highly reputed music festivals in Israel and in Europe, both as a guitarist and as a bass guitarist.\nAlon studied classical music and graduated from the Rimon College of Contemporary Music.\nHis first exposure to Gypsy Swing was when he heard Swing de Gitanes, his brother, Oren’s, band and fell in love with the music. He has experienced the life of the band from the outset and learned to play the style from Yaakov Hoter.\nAlon also serves guitarist and arranger in the Indy Rock Alternative band of vocalist\u002Fartist Inbar Hezroni.\nAlon creates balance and adds an element of calm and his arranging instincts contribute to the unique sound of the band.
