by Charles SpanoMike Fellows, aka Miighty Flashlight, has built his hushed and surreal future folk solo project out of his journey from bassist for seminal D.C. hardcore bands Rites of Spring and Happy Go Licky, to his work with Bonnie Prince Billy, Royal Trux, and the Silver Jews.\nIn 2000, Fellows began writing songs -- unsure of their destiny -- armed with a guitar, a bass, and a Mac Powerbook. He composed a collection of sublime, distinctly American tunes, and after playing them for some friends, was inspired to pursue his solo songwriting as Miighty Flashlight. \nAfter refining the songs on computer, adding flourishes of piano and drums, Fellows released his self-titled Miighty Flashlight debut in January of 2002 on Jade Tree. The magnificent, flowing album, best listened to straight through from beginning to end, found fans the likes of Mogwai's outspoken Stuart Braithwaite and suitably quiet critical acclaim.
