Amsterdam born singer-songwriter Hartog has often been compared to artists like Thom Yorke, Fink or Damien Rice. His new album “Making Waves” will be released on March 13, 2015.\nWriting a good song is the highest goal for many artists, but Hartog always wants to do things differently. His songs don’t always have a bridge or catchy refrain. Still he wants to touch the audience.\nThe search never ends. On every new album he takes things one step further. Hartog wants to explore and reinvent his style over and over. A real kick, when he discovers something new.\nFor his fourth album “Making Waves” all songs were written starting from the guitar sound. The acoustic guitar distorted with effect pedals, new colours and atmospheres lead to different lyrics, vocals and songwriting.\nHartog has a broad taste in music. He started out playing bass in rock bands in Amsterdam. Then he studied singing at conservatory. He sang in bands ranging from jazz to soul to dance.\nUnexpected musical combinations are the best. So his drummer will play some fat hiphop beat, or a vocal melody turns into unpredictable improvisation. What is the balance between a good old-fashioned song, and surprising elements from other styles ?\nWith a minimal instrumentation of vocals, guitar and drums, creating atmosphere can be challenging. His partner in crime is Rowin Tettero, who can colour and whisper on the drums, but also fuel the fire when he needs to. The two musicians are constantly reacting and communicating.\nHartog – vocals, guitar, effects\nRowin – drums, samples\n—\nAutumn 2012 his last album “Happy Days” came out.\nIt got some great reviews in the press.\nPlatoMania: Great piece of work.\nBN De Stem: Touching.\nMusic Maker: Deep, subtle, splendid performance.\nOOR: Glowing album, intensely moving.\nSubjectivisten: Ben Christophers meets Thom Yorke.\nMusic From NL: An extraordinary trip.\nHartog won the Hou Je Kop Luisterpop contest in 2006, and released his debut album “Storyteller” in 2008. His second album “No Hero” came out in 2010. Meanwhile he played throughout the Netherlands at venues like Paradiso, Melkweg, Vondelpark, Mezz, Effenaar, Burgerweeshuis, Bibelot, Luxor Live, and festivals like Noorderzon, the Popronde and the Amsterdam Uitmarkt.\nHe performed live on Radio 1, 2 and 3FM, and VARA’s Nachtegiel on TV. He went to London on a short promo tour and later did support acts for artists like Andy Yorke, Fischer-Z and Tim Christensen.\nHartog is joined by drummer Rowin Tettero, who has worked with artists like Alex Roeka, Ellen ten Damme, Raymzter and Solo. With his subtle, dynamic playing Tettero adds extra layers of colour and tension to Hartog’s songs.\n—\nHartog Eysman started playing bass and singing in various rock, jazz, dance and soul bands. He made albums with Hartog & Martini (jazz\u002Fpop) and Flowriders (soul\u002Fdance). With these bands he performed at venues like Vredenburg, Nighttown, Panama, Oosterpoort, Melkweg, Bimhuis, Beurs van Berlage, Bitterzoet, Vondelpark, Maison Royale, Oerol and North Sea Jazz Festival.\nSometimes as support act for artists like Tuck & Patti, Isaac Hayes, Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils Petter Molvaer, Ravi Coltrane, or Lamb. And live on TV shows like ‘Raymann Is Laat’ and ‘Reiziger In Muziek’.\nIn different collaborations he sang with artists like Michelle David, Benjamin Herman, Han Litz, Nueva Manteca, Wolf Martini, Rocq-E Harrell, Marlena Shaw, Bert van den Brink, Donald Jones, MC Complex, Colonel Red, Caecily Norby, Tom Beek, Richard Hallebeek, Matthias Bergmann, George Pancras, Forrest Thomas, Cord Heineking, Vincent Helbers, Joshua Samson, Denise Jannah.\nIn 2007 Hartog was guest singer with the Psychedelic Soul Orchestra, a 19-piece group including strings and horns led by Maarten Helsloot, touring in a tribute to 70′s soul singer Minnie Riperton.\nHartog has also worked as guest singer or co-writer with other artists, like saxophonist Thijs van Otterloo (jazz pop, CD “Miles Away”), drummer Joop van Erven (world\u002Fjazz\u002Fimpro, “Alias Smith & Jones”), and producer Joachim Staudt (Stuttgart) under the moniker Quiet Fire (electric soul, CD “A Deeper Shade Of Bright”).\nHartog teaches at the Artez conservatory in Arnhem.
