It is often told great artists and the most celebrated works of music are spawned from emotionally draining life experiences and personal sorrows. For the lucky ones, music becomes a therapeutic release that can heal the soul and move life forward. Music becomes life! West coast artist Eliza is a sultry singer\u002F emcee who is quickly becoming one of the hottest hip-hop and R&B phenomena in Canada. \nWith over 500 live performances under her belt and a brand new single called "Right Now" hitting the airwaves – including Vancouver's The Beat94.5FM – \nher industry peers are taking notice and her fan base is growing steadily. Eliza’s story is now beginning to be heard. The young Vancouver based talent has overcome numerous obstacles and has hurdled over some incredibly grave situations over the years. Through music Eliza, has triumphed over hardships and channeled her anguish through her songs. She draws inspiration from events in \nher own life and those close to her. Eliza is a fresh face; however, she's anything but new to the game. She’s been singing since age six and performing and writing her \nown lyrics since age fourteen. Eliza has long considered herself a student of music and she continues to empower her vocal range and sound through her determination to succeed as a vocalist. While music is a large part of Eliza's daily routine, it began to define her when she was eighteen. The senseless unprovoked murder of her best friend, her brother, created an emotional void. Up until this tragedy, her brother had always inspired her musically and had been her biggest supporter. Eliza was devastated by the loss of her brother and almost considered turning her back on music altogether. Summoning her inner strength Eliza regained her spirit and would draw from the memory of her brother as inspiration to continue pursuing her musical dream. Coinciding with her perseverance to be heard and to succeed, the soulful songstress focused her efforts to honour her brother's memory by forming a non- profit organization called, the “Ride Free \nCommunity Association.” Through “Ride Free,” Eliza has put on seven benefit concerts in a span of three years to raise money to build a skate park on Gabriola Island, British Columbia... The place Eliza and her brother spent many hours skateboarding. Presently, Eliza has taken steps to propel her career forward. Recently, she toured Asia and has performed various North American gigs including opening for Wu-Tang's Raekwon; with Juno award- winning singer Jully Black; and with Canadian hip hop mainstays Swollen Members. One of Eliza’s career highlights was winning the "Best of BC" contest on Virgin Radio, which led to regular spins of her first single, “Something about you.” On the release day of Eliza’s second single, “Right Now,” family tragedy struck a second time when her father succumbed to a work related injury. Eliza \nonce again was heartbroken. Fueled by the drive of her brother’s and her father’s untimely passing, Eliza was more determined then ever to succeed. Eliza escaped her emotional trauma by focusing on self- promoting her single “Right Now,” Through her efforts, “Right Now,” featuring Vancouver rapper Snak The Ripper, is gaining air play and interest across Canada. Her unique sound has radio programmers and media excited to learn more about Eliza’s fresh talent. As she enters a new chapter of her life, Eliza’s debut EP, “Born Knowing,” has an anticipated release date for April 2012.
