Composer, singer and percussionist, Carlton Rara was born in France in 1975 to a Haitian mother and a French father. \nHis music has been called the « Haitian expression of Blues and Soul ».\nCarlton first started singing and playing percussions as a self taught musician. Then he progressively absorbed all his influences to change them into gates to freedom throughout a permanent artistic research to eventually bring out a new style of his own. \nHis music is influenced by haitian music, soul music and blues indeed. \nAl Jarreau, Michael Jackson, Bill Withers, bluesman Taj Mahal, Ghanaian master drummer Mustapha Tettey Addy or famous jazzman Dizzy Gillespie are some of the performers that most inspired him.\nCarlton made his debut as a solo performer, then played with various combos and participated in a few international festivals (South Africa, Belgium, Haiti...) before he recorded in 2009 his first album Peyi Blue that was acclaimed by the critics and started bringing him a wider recognition. \nHis second album HOME put out in 2012, it is coming out to assert that Carlton Rara's music lays bridges over borders and is the embodiment of a new era.\nPerformance.\nCarlton has also developped the art of « reading », giving literature and poetry a voice and a shape. Thus he put on shows dedicated to haitian and carribean writers such as Franketienne or Aimé Césaire. He also took part in drama plays as a musician and actor. \nIn 2009, he performed live music for the film Why Worry starring Harold Lloyd which was a big success in the International silent Film Festival of Anères (France)
